MICTED Seligman Board Appointment

News Release – for Immediate Release

Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter is pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew Smiley to the Mountain Institute Career and Technology Education District Governing Board, to represent the Seligman Unified School District. The appointment was effective April 8, 2020 and will expire on December 31, 2020. Mr. Smiley indicated he will run for this seat in the 2020 election cycle.

The vacancy was due to the resignation of Board Member Brenda Bryant, who identified her father’s health and inability to make meetings as the cause. Mrs. Bryant’s service to the school district is greatly appreciated.

Mr. Smiley has been a resident of Mountain Institute CTED since 2016. He attended Lassen Community College in California where he earned an Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Gunsmithing.

Mr. Smiley is married and the couple have several young children. He is a medically retired United States Marine. He has also served as a Supervisor of Research and Development for Nosler Inc. and has most recently served as a Fire Captain and Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for the Seligman Fire Department.

Mr. Carter posted this position within the school districts and with local media. Upon receipt of a letter of interest and resume, he conducted an individual interview and communicated with individual members of the Governing Boards to get their feedback.

Mr. Smiley accepted the appointment because it was his belief that “everyone has an obligation to serve when called upon and to perform that duty to the best of one’s ability”.

Superintendent Carter said that “Mr. Smiley is looking forward to this new challenge. He should be a supportive partner with the existing Board Members. His background, education, and work experience should serve him extremely well in this new endeavor. He has always been an advocate for career related instruction and that passion comes across loud and clear when speaking with others. He will not hesitate to ask appropriate questions as a very active Board Member.
