Student Spotlight: Zack

His CTE journey began with welding at the high school, but he quickly realized it wasn’t the right fit for him. On a whim, he decided to try line working, and it has proven to be a natural fit, offering better personal and career opportunities.

In his spare time, Zack is a competitive archer, traveling across the state and even to places like Utah and Kentucky to participate in competitions.

After completing the line working program, Zack plans to move to eastern Arizona to work with Navopache Electric Cooperative as a ground man for 3-5 years. This will allow him to gain valuable experience before potentially returning to work for APS or SRP in a lineman position. When asked if he’s afraid of heights, Zack confidently stated that he isn’t!

Zack believes that being a lineman is a vital profession, especially during natural disasters like hurricanes and floods, which create high demand for skilled line workers. He also enjoys hearing his instructor’s stories from over 20 years of experience in the field, which inspire students to pursue this exciting career while appreciating the blend of teaching and storytelling.

We appreciate you, Zack, and the meaningful work you will provide for your community!
